What are suggested tags?

Suggested tags are tags that Inoreader's AI proposes for the article you're reading, picked from your existing tags and, where none fits, up to three new ones. Open them from Add tags > Suggested tags and click a suggestion to put that tag on the article.

Get suggestions

  1. Open an article in the reading panel.
  2. Click Add tags in the article's toolbar, or press T.
  3. Click Suggested tags, right under the Search or create tags box.
  4. Click a suggestion to put that tag on the article.

The Article tags menu in Inoreader with the Suggested tags list open beside it, showing existing and new tags for the article.

Nothing is tagged until you click a suggestion.

How the suggestions are chosen

The AI reads the article's title, source, date and text together with the list of your tags. It picks every tag of yours that clearly relates to the article, sorted by relevance, and proposes up to three new tags only for meanings none of your tags covers. When you have no tags yet, it proposes three new ones. New tags are lowercase, one word where possible and two at most, and a suggestion that matches one of your tags by name is shown as that tag.

New tags are written in the language set under Preferences > Intelligence > Article summaries > Default language: your interface language by default, the article's language, or the language of your existing tags with Let Inoreader decide.

Read the list

An existing tag shows the tag icon and a new one the new-tag icon. A tag already on the article shows Assigned, and hovering it shows Remove, so clicking an assigned tag takes it off the article. A new tag is created the moment you click it and then appears as an ordinary tag. On a Team plan you also get a second list, Suggested Team tags, and a new tag picked there is created as a team tag.

Plans

Suggested tags are part of Pro, and they don't use your monthly Intelligence tokens. Free and Supporter accounts see example tags with Upgrade to Pro, as Are suggested tags available in all plans? explains. Tags themselves are on every plan: What are tags? and How do I tag an article? cover tagging by hand, and Organize your feeds and the articles you keep shows the whole picture. A publisher that doesn't allow AI features on its content gets no suggestions. The blog post Suggested tags and feature improvements introduced the feature.
