What are mentions?
Mentions are the people, companies, locations, products and events that Inoreader recognizes in an article as it arrives. They're listed at the top of the article, grouped by type, and each one has a card and a page of its own that you can follow with a monitoring feed or use in a rule or filter.
The five types
Every mention has one of five types: Person, Company, Location, Product and Event. Different forms of one name count as one mention. Capitalization, accents and punctuation don't matter, a company or product keeps its name without the legal suffix, so UBS and UBS AG are one mention, and a title before a person's full name is dropped.
Recognition in new articles
Recognition runs on Inoreader's own servers the moment a new article arrives, before it's stored, and reads the title and the first 800 words of the text. It covers articles written in English, French or German from feeds with a Pro follower, feeds with 50 or more followers, web feeds and newsletters with a Pro follower. Not every capitalized word becomes a mention: a single lowercase word never does, and uncertain matches are dropped. What is the difference between a mention and a keyword? explains what that means for your searches.
The Mentions line in an article
In an opened article, the Mentions: line under the header shows a count per type, for example 2 companies and 1 location. See all expands the names grouped by type, and Show less collapses them. Hovering a name opens its card with a short description, how many articles named it last week and a seven-day trend line, and View details opens the mention's page. Where are mentions displayed? lists every place they appear.

Monitoring feeds, rules and filters
A mention can be an item in a monitoring feed, so you follow the company rather than the word, and a List of mentions condition in a rule or filter. What can I do with a mention? walks through the card's buttons and the page, and the blog post Introducing Mentions, redesigned search and smarter monitoring feeds introduces the feature.
Plans
Mentions are a Pro feature: on Free you see the list in articles and can open a card in 3 articles a week, as Are mentions available in all plans? explains.
