Can I combine tags when searching?

A search looks inside one tag at a time, so you can't ask for the articles that carry two tags at once. What you can combine is a tag with words: search inside the tag, and every operator of the search works there, so the result is the articles of that tag that also match your query.

Search inside a tag

  1. Click Search in the tab bar.
  2. Under Search in, click Tags and pick the tag. Type into Filter items to find it quickly when you have many.
  3. Type your words into the search box and press Enter. Put a phrase in quotes, use OR when any of several words will do, and NOT to leave a word out, as explained in how to combine search conditions.

Tags appear in the Search in list as soon as the account has one.

You can also open the tag from the sidebar and type into the search box above its article list. The results stay within the tag. To search everything you tagged at once, open All tagged articles under Saved, where your tagged articles live, and use its search box the same way. The filters above the results narrow them by language, by match (titles, content or both), by order and by period.

When you need two tags together, give those articles a tag of their own. By hand, assign the second tag from the same Add tags menu. With Pro, a rule with a keyword condition and two Assign tag actions tags every matching article with both as it arrives, and a search inside either tag then finds them. Naming helps too: a tag per project and a tag per theme, such as Solar and Report, keeps each search short.

Plans

Searching your own account, tags included, works on every plan. The basics are in how to search for articles in Inoreader and on the Search feature page. Rules and the language filter are Pro features.
