What happens if an auto-renewal payment fails?
Your paid features keep working while Inoreader retries the payment. It tries again the next day and once more six days after that, and if the last attempt fails too, the subscription is canceled and the account moves to Free.
Where you see the failure
After the first and the second failed attempt you get an email with the subject "Action required: Inoreader subscription renewal issue", naming the payment method and the date of the next attempt. The next time you open Inoreader on the web, a message tells you which method couldn't be charged, with the button Review billing details and payment method, which opens Preferences > Billing and usage.
On the Billing tab the line under Next billing date turns red and says that the charge failed, with its amount, its date and the date of the next attempt. Hover the ? icon next to it for the reason your bank gave.

Fix it before the last attempt
- Click the gear at the bottom of the tab bar (Preferences) and open Billing and usage.
- On the Billing tab, check the red message under Next billing date.
- Click Edit payment method, add a card or a PayPal account, and click Save.
Inoreader charges the new method right away, and that charge doesn't count as one of the retries. A successful payment clears the message, and your renewal date stays the same. See how to update your payment method for the dialog.
Access runs 8 days past the paid period while auto-renew is on, longer than the 7 days the retries take, so nothing switches off during them.
If every attempt fails
The subscription is canceled, access ends with the paid period and the account becomes Free. Nothing is deleted, but features over the Free limits are switched off and come back when you upgrade again, as what happens if you cancel your subscription describes. You can buy the plan again from Plans in the profile panel.
How does subscription renewal work? explains the dates and amounts, and if a payment keeps failing for a reason you can't see, contact the Inoreader support team.
Web subscriptions on any paid plan, paid by card, PayPal, Google Pay or Apple Pay, follow these retries, while App Store and Google Play subscriptions follow Apple's and Google's own rules.
